AOD@theGP works collaboratively with GPs and their patients to explore how substances affect health and wellbeing.

It's a free service available to GPs, practice nurses, pharmacists, medical receptionists and allied health providers working in the Eastern Melbourne Primary Health Network area; including Whittlesea, Epping, Mernda, Lalor, Wallan, Plenty, Doreen and surrounding suburbs.

GPs are uniquely placed to identify and intervene with patients whose alcohol or drug use is at risk of being unhealthy. But while the benefits of early intervention are well-documented, it can be difficult for GPs to dedicate time and resources to provide preventative treatment, especially when a patient doesn’t yet recognise there is an issue.

To support GPs in engaging at-risk patients earlier, the Eastern Melbourne Primary Health Network has commissioned Caraniche to introduce AOD@theGP at a number of GP clinics in Melbourne’s north.
